Homework-Too much or Too little? by Bette Rathjen

http://www.cnn.com/2013/09/05/living/parents-too-much-homework/index.html?hpt=us_c2

This article debates whether kids in school get enough homework or not. Some people say that younger children should not have as much homework but as you get older the amount should increase. Others say that we do not get enough work and that our computers and our other electronic devices take up too much of our time. In my opinion I think we get a reasonable amount of homework considering that most of us practice our art outside of school and get home rather late. Occasionally I think we are given too much but we are on a block schedule and we do have two days to complete it. The article also talks about if the homework is actually helping us academically or if it is just busy work that we don't benefit from. I think we learn from majority of are homework (especially current events because we are learning about things all over the world) but I do think that some homework is unreasonable if it was not explained in class and you feel helpless at home, or if it doesn't help you learn. Overall though, I think we are given a good amount of homework although no homework would be nice occasionly :)

  1. I agree and disagree. I think you're right when you say we gain from a majority of our homework, but im not sure I agree when you say we are given a good amount of homework. Im not sure it's necessary to have homework every night and weekend since your brain needs time to rest. Plus, being human, we have a social life, and need time to be with our friends. But most homework does help. :)

  2. I agree with you Bette because we already have enough stress on our hands with extracurricular activities, things at home and of course our cluster.

  3. I think we get the right amount of homework but the teachers could give some days where its homework free, so that we can just focus on our clusters.

  4. I think that when we start elementary we need to start homework. Then as we move up in our grade, it will slowly increase. I'm not saying pile it up on us students when we become seniors rather then having little homework in elementary, some in middle school and then a ton in high school we balance it out. I felt like when I started school I was overwhelmed with the work already and I had never experienced this amount before. It's unrealistic for middle school not to prepare you for high school, especially if your in 8th grade.
