In light of the recent events in syria, most notably the massacre of 1,400 people in a chemical weapon firing, Barack Obama and many others have begun to discuss sending troops to the country in hopes of helping. But of course with our rather notorious countries history with sending troops to other countries in hopes of change and what it normally results in, everyone has reservations. The fact of the matter is that if we were to start a war it would cost too much to the american taxpayers. And while sending troops would be the most morally fulfilling course of action there is nothing to say that this wouldn't just turn into another Iraq.
I find it hard to take a side on this case, on one side you have the people of syria who are being deprived of their basic humans rights and are under attack from their own government, but on the other you have the fact that America, as it is right now, just cant fund another war, especially after Iraq. We simply don't have the support or the body count to make it happen. We are a war-weary nation with problems of its own and there are other countries much closer and better suited to help. And yet, if no one is willing to step up on behalf of the people of Syria, then it will only get much worse in that country and we will only regret our decision.

I agree with your stance on this! I think that we should help Syria, but we simply can't afford it after Iraq. I hope that someone will come up with a compromise between these two decisions.
ReplyDeletei also agree with the two of you. i think they might need some help but i think there might be others in a better situation to help.
ReplyDeleteOkay if you are going to talk about Syria you need to understand one thing, we are not sending in troop we are launching two cruise missiles into the country. Also I believe the government needs to do this strategic bombing in order to punish Syria but not start a war.
