Winning by Swimming by Hannah Kerman
The author of this article was William M. Welch who is a writer for USA Today. From what I can tell, the author does not have a side in the article, but he does have very good things to say about Diana Nyad, who was the swimmer. Before I read the article, I had never heard of anyone swimming across the ocean from Cuba to Florida. I did know before that from Cuba to the coast of Florida, it is approximately one hundred to one hundred fifty miles. Because I did not know very much about someone attempting to swim from Cuba to Florida, I knew that if someone did, it would be a very long swim and a very big accomplishment. I believe that the author has very positive things to say about Diana Nyad, he seems to agree with me that swimming from Cuba to Florida is a very big accomplishment especially being an older swimmer. This article was written so that people could learn more about Diana Nyad's swim and how hard and dangerous it is. The author shows that the accomplishment was big by explaining that she swam without a shark cage and that she would not give up even if she had to try four times! This article shows that if you really believe in your dreams, you can accomplish anything no matter what. It also explains that you can try and fail, but if you keep trying, one day you will achieve your goal. In conclusion, this article is very positive towards Diana Nyad and this article is relevant to our lives because she is an inspiration for future generations!http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2013/09/02/nyad-cuba-to-florida-swim/2755875/

I agree! it is a big acomplishment to swim that far!
ReplyDeleteThis article is, as you said, very inspiring. Especially as artists and performers, we need to have resilience if we want to be successful. It's even more impressive because this woman wasn't very young, and we can see how much resilience she had. When you think about all the times she could have given up, we need to remember that hard work brings rewards.
ReplyDeleteI agree; this is a very neat story. The fact that she never gave up, even though most people her age couldn't ever do this, is amazing and inspiring. This is the attitude that I think all people need to have towards their goals, no matter what they may be.
