2 Croatians acquitted of Balkan war crimes By: Halle Van De Hey

2 Croatians acquitted of Balkan war crimes

In this article CNN wrote about two men being tried, and convicted of war crimes in Croatia recently being acquitted. Ante Gotovina was sentences to 24 years in prison. Mladen Markac was sentenced to 18 years in prison. Gotovina and Markac were charged for participating in an ethnic cleansing in 1995. Gotovina was in charge of the Croatians split military district, and Markac was head of the Interior Ministry's Special Police. The two men were acquitted after the court found errors in the evidence.

I think this article is very interesting. I never understand how people can basically ruin other people lives by accusing them of something wrong. When you convict someone you are not just taking away their freedom your taking away everything they have and when you wrongfully convict someone on false evidence you are basically ruining their lives, and not giving them the chance they deserve. I wish we had a better system to avoid wrongful convictions and give people the freedom they deserve.
