After an Irish woman's untimely death, thousands rallied throughout the country to protest the fact that women aren't allowed to have abortions even in extreme medical emergencies. The woman for whom they were protesting was Savita Halappanavar. She went into an Irish hospital complaining of severe back pain, was told that she was having a miscarriage, and denied an abortion. Ireland has some regulation as to abortions in severe medical cases, but they are vague and don't give hospitals and doctors much to go by. Investigations are being held in the hospital in which Halappanavar died, to see if an abortion should have taken place. I do think that women should have the right to an abortion when their lives are being threatened, and I don't think that anyone should be able to deny them that.
