"The Lady King of Otuam" - Hannah Kalan
For nearly thirty years Peggielene Bartels worked as a secretary at the Ghanaian Embassy, but everything changed when she got a call at four a.m. The previous King of Otuam was her uncle, and had passed recently, and the town elders decided to make her the first woman King of the small fishing city with an influence over seven thousand plus people. Although she became an American citizen in 1997, she didn't turn down the offer. However, she continues to work as a secretary in the Ghanaian Embassy, spending all of her vacation time every year in Otuam, Ghana.
