Africa is obsessed with football so the kick of to the season should have been packed with fans, but it wasn't due to a deadly riot. Saturday's games were the first since the riot at a game last year that left 74 dead and 1,000 injured. Fans from both sides hit each other with rocks/chairs, and those who died either suffocated or fell from the bleachers. A judge has since sentenced 21 people to death for their roles in the riot. This made many residents mad, because they blame the security officials for what happened.
Holly Yan wrote this article on February 2nd. I already knew that Egypt has been having serious issues before reading this article, but I didn't know that it was this bad. This article was written to update and inform people of what is happening in Africa. It's awful that this kind of thing could happen during a football game, and that fans now must cheer for their team from afar.
