Rituals and practices mark the Day of the Dead

By Lossiebeth Hudspeth

All across Mexico and other surrounding Spanish speaking countries. Families are celebrating the Day of The Dead.
In Mexico, families visited the graves of their ancestors and recently deceased loved ones. They cleaned their bones and decorated their graves with flowers and skull candy.
In Haiti another practice for the dead took place. Voodoo practitioners circled an iron cross and poured moonshine on it, to honor their loved ones.
In Guatemala, some people even held horse races in memory for their deceased families.
Across the Western Hemisphere people are celebrating the Day of the Dead to remember the lives of families that have passed on.
I think the different rituals and practices that take place are truly unique. When I think of Day of the Dead I usually associate it with colorful skulls and flowers followed with a parade. Now Ip picture the different practices that take place on that day.
