Teachers' Strike in Chicago

On Monday, September 10, public school teachers went on strike. This left many parents trying to find places for their kids to go for the day. The strike broke out over unionized teachers pay, benefits, conditions and standing. Teachers feel disrespected and like they work more than what they are getting payed for. Arguments arose over the issue of the mayor, Emanuel. This strike has and will continue to have a huge impact on the 2012 election.

 

Analysis

1. Monica Davey is the author. I do not know anything about her but she doesn't seem to have a clear perspective on the issue. She wasn't for the strike nor against it.
2. The article was produced today, September 3. The information was from reporters in Chicago where the incident happened and also Washington and New York. This could have an affect on how accurate the information would be. Reporters who were actually at the location of the event would have more descriptive news.
3. I hadn't heard anything about it yet seeing as how it happened today but I did know that teachers were frustrated about conditions and pay.
4. This article was mainly written to inform the public and less about enforcing a certain view on the audience but after reading the article I definitely understood where the teachers were coming from.
5. The article was written to inform readers about today's current events.
6. The main point is that teachers are fed up with the overflowed classrooms, the pay in which they are receiving yearly, and the benefits they receive.
7. This article is very critical to my daily life because if teachers don't get what they ask for or come to some sort of agreement then I could be put in a position where I lose my teachers. But also the conditions is important because filling up a class takes away from the individual time each student recieves and therefore leaves them a little more clueless.
