Over 200
million Olive Ridley sea turtle hatchlings have been released on La Escobilla
Beach, located in the southern Mexican state of Oaxaca, over the past six
years. The government program has seen numbers rise from 200,000 hatchlings in
1973 to over 1.5 million this year, indicating that the species is making a
strong recovery. The Mexican government has spent more than 143 pesos, or $11
million to support projects that combat threats to the sea turtles! Those
babies are livin’ the life.
