At Least 14 People Killed at Pop Concert in South Korea by Savannah Boyack

http://www.nytimes.com/2014/10/18/world/asia/at-least-14-killed-at-k-pop-concert-in-south-korea.html

At a Pop concert, which band was performing has not been announced to the public, at least 14 people were killed after a ventilation grate they were standing on caved in and dropped 66 feet. At least 25 people had fallen and 10 of those people were injured, some so seriously the death toll could rise. There was about 1000 people at the concert which took place in Pan-gyo Techno Valley, a newly built which houses many high-tech companies.

I think this accident was really frightening, especially for the people who witnessed it and for the people who were performing. But I think this accident also shed a light to a big problem in that town. How many other ventilation grates in Pan-gyo are that unstable? What about the buildings and houses? Are they secure enough? This is a newly built town so they should be able to easily look back on most of the blueprints and records on the construction of the town. This could be a serious problem if more objects are found to be unstable.

  1. It's horrible when people don't do their jobs properly and things like this end up happening. I agree with you about how they should look back on their blue prints.

  2. It's awful that so many people had to be killed for the issue to be recognized. The structure should've gotten a routine check before people were allowed to stand on it. I agree with the both of you, it was definitely an error that could have been avoided.
