Bear rescue in Cambodia by Vern Blossfeld

Summary: Free the Bears has been in Cambodia for 17 years, and has rescued 182 bears in that time. Some of the bears are rescued from private residences, others wildlife trafficking. Most of the time, humans are the ones threatening the bears. The bear rescued most recently, number 182, was a five month old endangered moon bear. The cub had wounds that suggest it was caught in a hunter's trap, and the mother would have run off after seeing it. Most of the bears they rescue are cubs, and bears are most in danger of wildlife trafficking lately; it continues to get worse. More than 2,800 were known to be trafficked 2010-2011 alone, and researchers estimate more have been sold that were not documented.
Analysis: I think it's nice that they're making an effort to help the bears. It's important that we as people take care of our environment, and that includes the animals living in it. It's awful that all these bear cubs are sold across the globe to people who want to hunt them for sport, or people that don't know how to take proper care of them, but want what they think will be a cute exotic pet. I hope the Free the Bears association continues their efforts and are able to help more bears, before it's too late.

  1. I'm glad that these types of organizations exist! It's so sad that these animals are abused the way they are. I don't think people are aware of these kinds of issues enough. Besides animals at the pound, we don't have any knowledge about animal cruelties outside of our city walls. Best regards to the Free the Bears association!

  2. What a pain I get from hearing these cruel acts. Its wrong for people to go sabotage these innocent bears which their lives are used as decorations and game. Fortunately, there's still good willing people out there that know right from wrong.
