Ex-Army Officers Sentenced to Life in Prison in Argentina-Maddie Ash

Three ex-army officers were arrested and sentenced to life in prison in Argentina.  They were guilty of crimes against humanity. These officers shot 16 rebel fighters after a failed jailbreak in what is known as the "Trelew massacre" in 1972. The prisoners killed were among 27 rebels who escaped from Rawson Penitentiary in the capital of Argentina's Chubut Province. 19 runaways were captured and taken to an air base near Trelew. 16 were executed by officers because of their comrades successful escape. Argentina has recently been cracking down on killings like these. In northern Argentina, eight ex-army officers were sentenced to life in jail for killing unarmed activists during military rule.
