Apparently to much Internet can be a disease?
Yes, we all say it, the term "I'm addicted to the Internet". But now that term can be a reality. In the 2013 May edition of the book 'Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders' they are putting a new mental disorder in called 'Internet use Disorder'. This disorder is people who are addicted to the Internet. Not just computers but iPhone, smart-phones, and tablets. One reason why they do think it might be an addiction is because when patients where with drawn from the Internet they had the same symptoms as other addictions. These symptoms include Intensive Emotions, Shut down, and Negative Repercussion. They are putting this addiction down in the book that it is still being studied. This addiction could be real since there is a 'Video Game Addiction'. There is even a rehab center in Sydney, Australia. So what do you think? Do you think these two things are real addictions?
My personal take on it is that there maybe a 'Internet Addiction' but I believe there is a definitely a 'Video Game Addiction'. People will be in a dark room playing games for hours. People have even died from playing for to long. They did not actually die from the playing of the game but for sitting down for over 24 hours. 'Video Game Addiction' is a definite yes but 'Internet Addiction' is a maybe.

I think that the "Video Game Addiction" and the "Internet Addiction" are very similar, and that both are real.
ReplyDeleteThis is dumb. yes i know that some people may be addicts, but how exactly can it be a "mental illness?"
ReplyDeleteI think that anything could cause "mental illness" if you're exposed to it to much or if you're super dependent on it ( imagine if it's taken away ) but they shouldn't be blaming the kid for "mental illness" and just send him to rehab they should go to the source, how easy it is to have something so addicting at your finger tips at all times!
