The European Union Will Receive the Nobel Peace Prize By: Nina Bharadwaj

Although the European Union is at a terrible economic crisis, it will still receive the Nobel Peace Prize on Monday in Oslo, Norway. The three presidents of the European Union will accept it together.
The choice was announced on October 12, by the Norwegian Nobel Committee. The committee praised the union for having 27 nation working together and for promoting democracy since World War II. The choice has come with arguments and different opinions.
There have been many differences between strong economic countries, such as Germany, and from weak economic countries, such as Greece.
Three past winners of the Nobel Peace Prize have protested against having the European Union receive the prize. The winners were Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Mairead Maguire, and Adolfo Perez, and they said that by having the European Union receive the prize, the committee would be doing something "unlawful".
They wrote "The EU is not seeking to realize Nobel's demilitarized global peace order."
The European Commission president, Council President, and the European Parliament President will represent 500 million citizens of the union, at the ceremony.
The EU will also distribute 1.2 million dollars of the prize money to support educational projects and to provide protective spaces for children.
The committee singled out Germany and France when they praised the union for keeping peace since World War II because during the last century, the two countries experienced much conflict. The committee said "Since 1945, reconciliation has become a reality."
In the Balkins, the award has been greeted by skepticism because the EU didn't take action when there were wars between Bosnia, Kosovo, and Croatia.
Many people said that this award shows that even though there have been struggles and conflicts, the EU has still remained as one.
Analysis: I think the author of this article, Ben Brumfield, wrote this article just to inform us about a great thing happening to Europe. The author wasn't biased at all. This article was mainly facts with a few fair opinions on the side.
I think that it is great that the EU is receiving the Nobel Peace Prize. I remember learning about France and Germany fighting a long time ago, and it is amazing that they haven't fought since World War II. I don't understand why people would think this is "unlawful" because keeping 27 nations must have required some peace. I just hope that this prize will reassure the European Union that it is doing a good job at keeping the nation together and hopefully, this peace will continue.
