Cheetahs are endangered species. There are only about 10,000 still in the wild. Winspear and Camau are baby cubs at the Dallas zoo and they are in the zoo's program to create awareness for endangered African animals. "Zoo officials believe the Labrador retriever will keep the cubs in line as they grow up away from the wilderness." Dogs are naturally comfortable in public settings so Amani, the Labrador retriever, will provide a calming influence for the baby cubs and also provide them with another play mate.
I think this is a great way for the cubs to grow up because I think that the Labrador will give the cubs a little competition and be a great playmate for the cubs! It is such a great thing that the Dallas Zoo has a program that creates awareness for endangered African animals! *a video is in the link*
It is good that Dallas Zoo is making an effort to spread awareness about endangered animals, because goodness knows the world needs one. It'll be very interesting to see how the cheetahs adapt to their new environment. A zoo environment with a Labrador is extremely different from a wild environment with other cheetahs. It can be almost like an experiment, to see how they develop socially and how they are different from their wild relatives.
ReplyDeletei think it s a great idea to have the two cheetahs ave this new play mate because in most cases mixing similar species with each other has been very successful and under such close watch I'm certain this will be wonderful.
