Forced Birth Control For Ethiopians In Israel-Kennedi Mayes

It has been reported that Ethiopian women immigrants were being given a birth control shot without being informed of all of the side effects before they got the injection or took the pill. After immigrating to Israel, the government convinces the Ethiopian women to take the drug(that won't allow the women to have children for two years after the injection), but they suggest that the pill is good for them, when the women don't know what they're walking into.

I think that this is really messed up and side effects of a drug, especially one not used in first world countries, should be given to the people who are considering taking them. When a moral situation, such as the right to know the drug you are taking is going to limit you abilities to do your job(women having babies), is put up against the government's views and what it feels is best for their country(especially one with a broken government), there is going to be a problem that arises quite quickly. I hope Israel gets this sorted out and that these women are educated about the consequences of this birth control.

  1. This is horrible. The women should have been informed and educated as to what they were being injected with! They have the right to decide whether to have a child or not, and it's horrible that someone decided to make that decision for them. I hope this doesn't cause any serious side effects.

  2. This is so terrible. They should have had a choice as to what was being put into their bodies.

  3. This is horrible. I wonder how these people could have to take these pills without being informed about what could result as the digestion of these pills. It just isn't right. I always look at side effects of a medication before I take the medicine because I never know what terrible thing may happen. I don't know how the Israel government could say that these are good for women. The women should be able to decide that for themselves. I hope that this stops because it isn't fair.
