Rhino population decreasing in South Africa by Josie

Summary: Much of the Rhino population in South Africa has begun to decrease as poaching rises. Starting January 2013, the number of Rhinos poached has reached 946, as confirmed by the Department of Environmental Affairs on Thursday. The number of people arrested for poaching has reached 330, and the majority of these rhino killings have taken place in parks meant to protect them, such as Kruger National Park.
Analysis: Its alarming that poachers are so easily able to get into these parks made to protect the rhinos. It seems as though more people are focused on arresting the poachers rather than just protecting the parks so that it wouldn't happen in the first place. Hopefully now that this issue has been brought to light the park rangers will put in more effort financially and physically to protect the animals so that they will not be forced closer to extinction.

  1. I really hope that they are able to resolve this issue and that they are able to save as many animals as they can.

  2. I agree, it's weird that they get distracted by the poachers and not strengthen the rhino security.
