Five teens were taken under  arrested recently for the crime of descrating a Jewish cemetery. The  crime took place in Sarre Union, France, despite the young accussed residing in Alsace region of France.  One of the teens claimed the crime was not " anti-Semitic" and that they didn't know the vandalized graves were jewish.  They have been charged with "desecration of graves and with organized damage on property for the public benefit," and could each face up to at the most seven years in prison. A public apology has been released by the interior minister. This vandalism comes timely to other Jewish cemeteries around the world.

I feel like this was a very dumb and reckless act. It was very insensitive and disrespectful, for the teenagers to vandalize graves, but to write nazi saying on jewish graves in just disgusting. I do believe punishment for this crime is needed but up to seven years in jail is a little severe. Do they have strict laws against this in France to where this is a serious offense?
