Men Wearing Miniskirts Equals Women's Rights by Bella Dekhtyar

http://www.cnn.com/2015/02/22/europe/turkey-men-miniskirts/

After the brutal murder and rape of a Turkish women, named Ozgecan Aslan, sparked protests in Turkey have been raging through the streets and social media. Twitter especially, with the hashtag #OzgecanAslan, has women posting themsleves dressed in black. And most recently, the hashtag #ozgecanicinminietekgiy, meaning "wear a miniskirt for Ozgecan", has become very popular. The tweet accompanies a photo of a man with a miniskirt. The public believe the miniskirts symbolizes that a skirt is no excuse for sexual harassment. A study shows that two out of five women in turkey are exposed to sexual and physical violence.

I believe this article relates to women's rights, and especially the women's suffrage movement. It was seen as unusual for men to be standing up for the women in Turkey, but I believe its a step closer to freedom among women in other countries. With the help of the social media, the murder of Ozgecan Aslan has caused people to think about their political attitudes and challenged their views. I believe that many women in Turkey have been victimized in physical violence, but Ozgecan in a way represents women's rights as a martyr, causing further protests among the people. Although it's an unusual strategy, men wearing miniskirts has created some progress in gender equality.
