MLB Coach Hit by Foul Ball - Lauren Rothert

On Saturday, San Francisco Giants first base coach was hit in the face by a foul ball. During the game against the Kansas City Royals, Jose Alguacil was sitting in a chair against the backstop behind home plate when the batter nicked the ball which hit Alguacil drawing blood. Alguacil fell face-first into the dirt and laid motionless. After being placed on a stretcher, the first base coach was care flighted to a nearby hospital in Phoenix. Surgery was performed for Alguacil's broken nose and deep lacerations on the face. Because the season has not started yet, and the teams are still in Spring Training, many managers and coaches sit at the backstop for a closer view, mainly because rules allow it.

I believe that a situation like this should have never happened. Even though the season has not started yet, there should still be rules and regulations. I hope MLB officials create a new rule to help avoid these problems from happening again in the future. I hope Alguacil is okay, it was his first year coaching the Giants. He is a very good coach with a lot to offer.
