miners in South Africa traped- Andrew Tunell

Recently in South Africa a abandoned mine shaft has been found to be in used by illegal miners. These miners were trapped inside after another illegal mining group blocked the exit allowing just the air ducts for entrances.  It was estimated that about 200 miners were in the mine but the latest estimates are as low as 15. So far only 11 miners have left the shaft and have been arrested. Police hope the rest will come out soon before they run out of resources.

These miners are in fear of being arrested for using a abandoned mine shaft, I don't know why the government won't allow them to use the shaft if their not going to use it. Although the government has been loosing money from illegal miners like this I don't know why they don't open the shafts and allow then to mine legally. I just  hope that the miners choose to come out soon.

  1. I agree, I hope the miners come out and face the punishment for the crime they committed, no matter how stupid the crime is. If the government would open these mines it would supply jobs and help the economy tremendously!

  2. I disagree - the mines are obviously closed for a reason, probably because they are unsafe or they pollute the environment. Still, it's unfortunate that people have had to turn to this, and I hope the government will be understanding and do something to help them.
