Saudi Arabian man ordered to lose weight by the king by Samantha Stromness

A man in his late teens weighed over 1350 and had not left his bed in three years. The king as of last year ordered him to be hospitalized after being cut out of his own home and fork lifted to the hospital. This man in the year since has lost 700+ pounds and is steadily getting better.

I find this situation a bit odd. I think it's really great that this boy has lost so much weight and is starting to 'turn things around'. However i do find it a bit bizarre why this would be ordered by the king. I understand that people in this region don't have a whole lot of freedom, but i don't understand what would make a king care so much about some overweight man in a village.

  1. That is a bit strange that he was ordered by the king to lose weight, the king being the highest power in the country... It's weird that he was ordered at all to lose weight, but it would have been a bit less weird if he was ordered by a lower power.

  2. I'm just very happy that this man is getting better - I didn't even know it was possible to weigh 1350 pounds! Even though it's a bit odd, the king did a good thing by ordering him to be hospitalized, and by doing that he saved this man's life, and probably many others by raising awareness of the growing obesity problem in the world.

  3. Yeah, it's weird that a king would concern himself someone's weight, but I think it's kind of him to help the man when he was in poor health. And good for him that he decided to make a change in his life! I hope he is happier and healthier now

  4. i guess i could kind of see why. Not many people in the world weigh that much (excluding me) and its probably not all that flattering (or fattening idk) to have someone with that bad of a health issue. hey maybe it takes a king's orders to lose weight..
