This weekend, a deadly earthquake hit the Chinese province of Sichuan, leaving 186 people dead, and more than 8,000 in the hospital. The earthquake also created a huge drinking water shortage. The city of Ya'an is expected to run out of water in three days. Emergency workers are trying to reach the area, but the damage from the earthquake has made doing so difficult. Boulders have fallen from mountains, blocking roads and crushing buildings. The earthquake was a magnitude 7.0, and it was followed by a series of aftershocks. Though is a lot of damage, this earthquake was not as bad as the one the region had in 2008, which killed 87,000 people.
This article is very informative, and it has been updated recently. The death count may be higher than recorded, because the earthquake has damaged local communications. There was also conflicting information about the magnitude of the earthquake. Hopefully once the damage has been cleared, emergency workers will be able to deliver the much needed water to the region, as well as find out more information about what happened.

I also wrote about this event, but I didn't know about the water shortage. That's very scary considering it's a necessity.
