Earthquake in Sichuan by Corsica Steding

A southwestern Chinese province of Sichuan was struck by an earthquake that killed over 100 people.  More than 3,000 people were injured as well.  The earthquake hit just after 8 a.m. local time and had a magnitude of 7.0.  It was followed by a series of aftershocks that reached a magnitude of 5.1.  The epicenter was in Lushan country which is home to China's famous giant pandas, and has the biggest panda research center in the country.  CCTV reported that no pandas were injured, and that the facility remained in tact.

Jethro Mullen and Steven Jiang wrote this article for CNN on April 20th.  Before reading this article, I knew that this area of China had an earthquake similar to this one in 2008.  This makes it even more devastating to know that this area had already suffered from one strong earthquake, and now they will have to deal with another.  I hope that the thousands of people injured recover quickly, and that they find the people who are still missing.
