Earthquake in Sichuan, China by Amanda Kipp

At 8 in the morning this Saturday a powerful earthquake has hit the Sichuan province in central China. At least 180 people are dead and over 11,000 people are injured. These are only the numbers they have so far. Authorities say that aftershocks and landslides have made rescuing much more difficult.  Rescuers are racing to find the survivors under the rubble before it is too late. Families are in desperate need of food and water as they are living in makeshift shelters and waiting for further help. The original quake was put at a 6.6 by the US Geological Survey and a 7.0 by Chinese seismologists. There were also over 2,000 aftershocks, some reaching up to magnitudes of 5.0. According to Sichuan's emergency response center, 23 people from the town are still missing.

This is a heartbreaking story and I truly hope that rescuers are able to find all of the missing people. I also hope that those who are injured recover quickly and mourn those who passed away. I can't imagine what it would be like to suddenly have your home destroyed and loved ones injured or killed. Sending positive vibes across the Pacific to the people of Sichuan, China.
