Gujarat's Asiatic Lions Must Be Shared -Indian Court by Corsica Steding

It's estimated that there's a total of about 400 lions in Gujarat's Gir forests.  Asiatic lions are almost extinct in India, but conservation efforts by Gujarat have saved them from extinction during the last 50 years.  Political leaders have been resisting efforts to move the lions, but India's Supreme Court has ordered that Gujarat share some of its lions with Madhya Pradesh (a neighboring state).  This will ensure that the lions aren't wiped out by an epidemic or a fire.

This article was written on April 15th.  Before reading this article, I knew that cheetahs have been extinct in India for a very long time, but I hadn't heard about the lions.  This article was written to inform anyone who might be interested in the struggle to keep Asiatic lions from becoming extinct.  I think that relocating some of the lions is a great idea.  It will definitely help achieve the goal of keeping the Asiatic lions around longer.

  1. Either way I think it is a good thing that this many endangered lions have been successfully preserved for this long.
