No Source of Bird Flu by Madeline Ibarra

The bird flu in China has slowly but surly been spreading so that now the number of infected is 21. Of these 21 infected with H7N9, six have already died. Because if the panic to find and stop the source of the disease, Chinese authorities have killed over 20,000 birds in parks, cities, and markets. There was a bird found in a local food market that was infected with H7N9, proving that the virus could soon be spread by human-to-human contact. Doctors and scientists are in a mad dash to find out where or who is spreading the virus. There is also plans to develop a vaccine for the flu, but, " it may take up to eight months before the vaccine can be brought to market due to complications in the development and manufacturing process," said Liang Wannian, director of the H7N9 influenza prevention and control office under the National Health and Family Planning Commission (NHFPC), according to Xinhua. The production of the vaccine will be determined on how quickly it mutates and spreads.
This case many seem small now, but who knows if all of a sudden everyone is infected. At least they found out about the disease before thousands or hundreds had caught it. I believe that with so many scientists and labs all over the world, a cure could be found faster than the spread of the virus. If this ends up anything like the swine flu, I hope that we will all be able to get a vaccine or stay safe from it until we know how to stop it.

  1. I wish I had as much faith in our scientific community as you do.
