Eight Convicted Over Same Sex Wedding Video in Egypt

Eight men were arrested in September and sentenced to 3 years in prison on Saturday in Egypt for "inciting debauchery" for appearing in an internet video that showed two men getting married on a Nile boat.

I know one reason why this happened is because Egypt is a conservative majority Muslim country and that Muslims don't necessarily treat kindly to gay people. This would be a very different story if this happened in America. Most of the population would be outraged and demand that the men be released. I think that this is evidence that we need to start taking gay right's to an international level.

  1. I agree with you! It's nice that the U.S. has made so much progress when it comes to gay marriage, but I think we need to focus on strengthening the movement in other parts of the world too. It'd be nice to see counties like Egypt become more accepting and open, and also America! Many Americans today are in support of gay marriage, but we need help in other areas of inequality as well.

  2. I'm very grateful that we don't have strict laws like this in the U.S. because a lot of people would be unhappy.
