As two more people died over the weekend, both in Shanghai, bringing the death toll up to 13, the number of human cases of H7N9 (bird flu) rose to 60. Along with Shanghai, the virus is beginning to spread beyond eastern China for the first time. H7N9 is normally found in birds, and wasn't ever known to infect humans until just last month. The World Health Organization says that they will continue to look for the source of the infection and announced on Saturday that "Until the source of infection has been identified, it is expected that there will be further cases of human infection with the virus in China." I hope they find the source of the infection soon so that nobody else has to lose their life. There are already 60 people with the flu, and the number is rising!

Wow I cannot believe this has spread from the 3 cases a few weeks ago to now 60 cases! I hope China finds a way to control this before it becomes another epidemic.
ReplyDeleteThat is so weird that yet another disease has popped up! I agree with Amanda, they need to find out how to control all of these illnesses before things get too out of hand!
ReplyDeleteThats troubling that another disease would just pop up. I hope they find a vaccine soon!
