Friday night at the Babao Coal Mine in the city of Baishan, which is located near the North Korea border, a gas explosion injured some miners and killed many others. Reporters say that the blast happened around 10:40 p.m. that Friday night. The impact and the gases from the explosion caused many men to die as they waited rescue through out the night. Rescuers came early Saturday morning and managed to save thirteen men from the accident. Their injuries are said to not be life-threatening. The rescue mission was finished mid-day on Saturday. The initial cause of the explosion is still yet unknown, but the state company that owned the mine, the Tonghua Mining group, will be investigated.
I wish that there were more details about this. I remember hearing about a mining accident a few years ago that was very similar to this. I think that the surviving men were lucky to be able to get out so quickly and barely suffer any harm. For the many men who did perish in this accident, I hope that investigators find a cause for the explosion soon so that we the people can try to prevent thing like this from happening in the future.
