Exclusive: How my brother tried to kill me in 'honor attack' By: Halle Van De Hey

In this article, Anna Coren of CNN talks about a 17-year-old  girl who was almost murdered by her brother along with her friend. Gul Meena, the 17-year-old girl, was nearly killed after leaving her 60-year-old husband of 5 years. In Pakistan leaving your husband is disgraceful, and her family was not ok with it at all. Sshe divorced her husband and ran away, her brother found her, and tried to kill her with an ax. It's a miracle she's alive. None of her doctors thought they could save her, but they all tried, and eventually succeeded. She is now in the care of a woman's home. They have helped her through so much, including several suicide attempts.

This is absolutely terrible. I could not imagine anything like this happening, and would never wish this tragedy on anyone. I am so grateful I live in a free country, where things like this do not happen, and where me and the ones I love, can be safe. I just wish it could b the same for everyone all around the world.

  4. That's so horrible! Her own family?? Geez. And I agree with you, Lucy. It must be so terrible to have an arranged marriage and not even be able to divorce without being a disgrace to your family. It's strange how different some country's customs are compared to ours.

I'm not sure what's most disturbing: having your brother try to kill you, or being married to 60-year-old man while you're 17?
