| Activists have been calling for more to be done to protect women in India. A new law was recently passed. |
After two men attacked four women with acid, one is in the hospital being treated for severe burns. All four women are teachers and were walking home when acid was thrown on them in the town of Kandhla on Tuesday afternoon. The most seriously injured victim is being treated in Delhi, another was admitted to a local hospital, and the other two were treated for minor injuries. Motive is unclear, but the attack is thought to be related to the new law passed to counter violence against women. This new piece of legislation contains harsher punishment for rapists, including the death penalty, and up to 10 years in prison for acid attacks. Acid attacks are a problem throughout South Asia.

ReplyDeleteI hate that India is such a cruel place for it's women. I am happy that the laws are becoming more severe for crimes against women.
ReplyDeleteThat is just awful. I don't understand why women have to be treated so cruelly in the first place. Also, there is no reason for these acid attacks to be happening. Just because women and men are different genders, it doesn't mean they need to be treated any worse. I agree with this law that has been passes for harsher punishments on people who harass others. This law should have been passed years ago because women and men need to be treated equally. I hope these women recover soon, and I hope these attackers are found.
