Ellie Bush current event #4

Leukemia is no longer the number 1 cause of cancer deaths in children, but brain cancer now is. Pediatric cancer deaths have been dropping since the mid-1970s. The shift from leukemia to brain cancer as being the number one cancer death in children is worthy of knowing because it was leukemia until recently. There were 1,785 cancer deaths in children in 2014, brain cancer and leukemia being half of those.

It is sad that so many children have suffered and in some cases died from cancer. This article was probably written to inform the readers about this change in cancer deaths. It is important for everyone to know how many children or just people in general have battled cancer. This article is important because it makes people aware of the statistics of cancer deaths which could lead people to want to help, like donating money to cancer research.

  1. I hope that a cure for cancer is one day found, but at least technology has advanced very far to where many more lives can be saved. Unfortunately, people still die, but at least there are many efforts being made to help.

  2. I also really hope that a cure for cancer is found, and soon. I know it's ridiculously hard for scientists' to figure it out, but i believe they can do it. Also these poor children are wasting half of their life in the hospital when all they want to do it be a normal kid, and it makes me feel very blessed for my health and what family I have. Most of the children die very early in their life and it's completely unfair!

  3. I agree, cancer is terrible thing that needs to be cured. With our advancing technology, I believe we are one step closer everyday. I read an article the other day that said scientist found cancer inside a million year old fossil! This was a big breakthrough because it tells us that cancer is not a modern disease, it has been around for a very long time.
