$7.2 million for 'Popcorn lung'? By Ausia Jones

A man in Colorado was rewarded 7.2 million dollars because of the chemicals used in artificial butter flavoring of microwave popcorn. The man was diagnosed with an irreversible respiratory disease bronchiolitis obliterans, also called "popcorn lung". The man ate microwave popcorn about twice a day for 10 years until his diagnosis. People who work for popcorn manufacturing companies are often diagnosed with the disease as well. Some of the symptoms of this disease includes shortness of breath and coughing. The company says they have removed the chemical diacetyl from the microwavable popcorn between 2007 and 2008. There is also a new artificial butter chemical, and people are very unsure about the new chemical.

  1. This is very interesting to learn because my father likes microwavable popcorn. We need to be aware of what we are putting in our bodies because in can be very harmful.

  2. I don't think that this man should have won any money. I mean sure he got a disease from eating all of this popcorn, but he should know better than to just eat popcorn every single day. He knew that he was making an unhealthy decision, so I don't understand why he should be rewarded. I also think that from now on, we should be careful about what we put in our bodies.
