The CFIA (The Canadian Food Inspection Agency) has shut down a meatpacking plant. The plant had produced a beef product that has made people sick across the US and Canada. People been sickened eating that steaks that have E. coli in them. On Friday, the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service sent out a public health alert about the tainted meat that made it to the U.S. grocery stores in more that 30 states. The U.S. paused imports of beef from XL (Which is the name of the food plant) on September 13 E.coli bacteria can cause serious and life-threatening illness the stopping of XL foods will cause a lot of trouble through. It is one of the largest beef processors in Canada, It will weaken cattle prices, and limit option for cattle sales.Canada is the sixth largest beef and veal exporter in the world. I believe even though it will be hard they made the right choice on closing it down until they fix the problem is a good decision.
