West Nile in Dallas

"2012 is now officialy our worst year in the state of Texas for West Nile," says David Lakey, commisioner at the Texas Department of State Health Services. He recently recieved a phone call with reporters to talk about the sudden break out in West Nile that led to Dallas and Denton county being sprayed with insectiside. The data showed that the insectides did help reduce risk of contracting the disease significantly. However, Dr. Lyle Peterson, director of the CDC’s Division of Vector-Borne Infectious Diseases says that West Nile cases will keep growing all through the United States and will not start dying down until October. The most recent data shows 1,993 human cases and 87 total deaths in the U.S.!! I know many of us may think since it is not summer anymore we're safe from these mosquitos but we are not! Please remember to spray yourself with bug spray and dont leave any open puddles of water around the outside of your house. It is important to be aware of this dangerous disease and to know how to protect ourselves from it. http://thescoopblog.dallasnews.com/2012/09/health-officials-u-s-suffering-worst-year-ever-for-west-nile-virus-spread-but-data-in-north-texas-is-encouraging.html/
