58 Cancers Recieve 9/11 Fund Coverage
Today, government health experts added 58 cancers to the list of covered sicknesses for citizens exposed to poisons at the World Trade Center after the attack on 9/11. Last year, administrator of the World Trade Center Health Program, Dr. John Howard said that treatments for these cancers would not be covered by the program's funding. He thought that there was not enough scientific proof about the toxins leading to these types of cancers. This year however, Dr. Howard's advisory committee asked for "expanded coverage for certain types of cancers resulting from toxins released at Ground Zero". This June Dr. Howard passed the recommendations from the comittee after looking over the most up to date scientific research and data on the subject. The rule should be officially published this Wednesday. Certain fire volunteers, survivors, and people living near the World Trade Center at the time will be able to meet the requirements to recieve this coverage. Around 950-2,150 people will recieve this extra coverage. With this new rule many survivors of the 9/11 attacks will recieve the essential cancer treatments that will drastically help them. Personally, I beleive this is a great thing that will benefit so many citizens and really improve so many people's lives. http://www.cnn.com/2012/09/10/health/new-york-wtc-cancer/index.html?iid=article_sidebar
