New York's National September 11th Memorial and Museum at the World Trade Center has 4.5 million visitors the first year it opened. After $700 million project is complete, it is estimated that it will take about $60 million a year just to operate. They plan to spend about a fifth of just on security because of terrorism fears. Visitors go through an airport-like security and armed guards roam the grounds. Critics and allies are worried that the budget may not be able to be maintained without the government's assistance. The site may not be fully complete until 2014. This late opening has thrown of the financial planning because officials had expected to use sources like various government agencies and private donations. Visitors will be allowed to view the above-ground portion of the memorial for free but will be charged once they descend into the museum space. The admission price is not set yet, however, it should be around $12 dollars if about $2million people come a year.

  1. It looks like a beautiful landmark that will honor the lives lost on that horrible day. It's surprising how much was spent on the project, but I believe it is a worthwhile price to pay to make sure we never forget 9/11. I would go and pay the admission fee, as I'm sure thousands of Americans and tourists will.

  2. I also agree it is definitely worth the cost, but there are ways that can make it not so Expensive to uphold. If we raised that kind of money for other important things as well, our economy might be a little better. Besides that the people who's lives were taken deserve the very best memorial and I believe they got it.

  3. I agree that the cost is worth it, that there's something there for those lost in that tragic event. They need to be remembered, not by those who just lost them either.
