West Nile virus is a disease spread by Mosquitos. West Nile virus was first identified in Uganda in eastern Africa. It was first discovered in the U.S In the summer of 1999 in New York. Since then, the virus has spread throughout the united states. Researchers believe that west Nile virus is spread when a mosquito bites an infected bird then bites a person. Mosquitos carry the highest amount of virus in the Fall which is why the disease increases in early August and late September. The risk of the disease decreases as the weather gets colder and the Mosquitos die off. Although many people are bitten by Mosquitos that carry west nile virus, most do not know they have been exposed. Few people develop severe disease or even notice any symptoms at all.
So every one should stay indoors as much as possible and when ever needed to go outdoors, please remember to be careful and be protected.
