Lewisville workers hunt for Stagnant Water in Fight - Hannah Menchu

West Nile Virus is an epidemic this summer.  The cit of Lewisville is working very hard to prevent more cases of this deadly disease in their most populated areas.  They have added shifts of city workers to battle places with standing water everyday.
Crews are putting mosquito baits in pools of standing water and clearing weeds and debris to improve drainage.  Homeowners can do their part too.  Swimming pools need to be maintained and gutters, buckets, and any items left outside should not be allowed to collect water.
West Nile has claimed the life of many North Texans this summer and others have become very sick.  I think if each of us do our part to take care of our yards and property, we can help prevent anyone else from suffering from this horrible disease.

I heard that so far no one has been killed by West Nile virus that didn't have a preexisting condition. Call me crazy, but I really don't see what the big deal is. To quote the New York Times health guide, "In most cases of arbovirus infection, symptoms are mild, last 3 - 5 days, and resolve without becoming serious. In fact, the infection is generally unrecognized as anything other than a mild flu." I would always say to protect yourself from mosquitos, but I wouldn't freak out. http://health.nytimes.com/health/guides/disease/west-nile-virus/prognosis.html
