Severe weather hits New York area

Severe weather hit Northeast and mid-Atlantic on Saturday. A waterspout with strong winds came on shore and turned into a tornado. This was near Breezy Point, a Queens neighborhood. The tornado only came in 600 yards until dissipatating. The fire department was called but there were no fatalities. Damage included overturned cars, broken windows and roof damage. A second tornado was confirmed around 11:30 am, which was shortly after the first one. This tornado was in Brooklyn, it was 50 yards wide and it traveled only half a mile. No one was killed or injured in the second tornado. Tornado warnings and watches lasted until late that night in areas of New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut. Also the U.S. Open men's and women's singles tennis matches, which were being in  New York City, were rescheduled to Sunday because of the severe weather.

David Ariosto wrote this article for CNN. This article was last updated on Sunday at 1:30. I knew that we had a cold front, but I did not realize what the cold front was bringing to the northeast. While Dallas was having beautiful weather, New York was having tornados. This article was directed to an audience who has an interest in weather and cares about their safety. This article was written to warn the other regions of the US that we are having severe weather in parts of the country. The main idea of the article was that tornados have hit New York which is a severe weather condition that could of harmed someone. I hope that this article has informed others, as it did me, that tornados can strike in the northeast because I always thought they were only in the mid-west and they can be destructive.

  1. Lucky it only damaged cars, windows and roofs! I hardly ever hear of tornadoes in the northeast either.
