This past Saturday, sever weather hit parts of the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic areas. A cold front brought heavy rain, high winds, flooding, hail, and also tornados. The tornados were formed by a water spout that was formed off shore and made its way to Breezy Point (A Queens neighborhood). This tornado was said to travel "600 yards inland before dissipating". Later on that day, another tornado formed on Brooklyn, New york. This tornado was " about 50 yards wide as it traveled a half mile in Canarsie, about 9 miles north of the other reported tornado". No one was reported dead or hurt because of these twisters. Both tornados only classified as a EF1 on a scale to EF0 to EF5. Tornado watches continued through out the day from New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut. Tornados did not hit in the Washington D.C. area, but damaging winds and hail left thousands without power and  forced the "U.S. Open men's and women's singles tennis matches in Flushing Meadows, in the New York City borough of Queens".
Just in general, i think natural disasters are horrible when they harm people. Even if these storms did not hurt people, they left many people without power or even just very worried for hat might happen next. It was not known that this was going to happen, so it is good that people knew plans to stay safe and calm during weather like this. i think that many laces should come up with plans for when weather disables people to do their jobs or help other who need it. If we would be able to do that, people might be able to not worry over severe weather as much.

ReplyDeleteTornados, hail and high winds are destructive and deadly. Cleanup after such terrible storms can be hard. I hope everything can get back to normal soon
ReplyDeleteI believe that we as Americans should help the victims of this horrific storm by donating to organizations, such as The Red Cross. People may also consider donating blood to help the injured. I just hope that the victims are helped as soon as possible.
ReplyDeleteI think that we should help thme out, and donate money to charities helping out this cause. I hope that the victims are doing okay and if they aren't they should be assisted as soon as possible.
