Student use gun to defend themselves by Eleanor E-W

Two students from Gonzaga University are in trouble for using a gun to defend themselves against an intruder. The intruder was a man who had just got out of prison and came to their apartment door looking for money. The man tried to walk inside of the house and one of the students brought out a pistol. At this point the man ran away. The University has a policy against having guns, and the students could be expelled for this.

I think that gun laws in the United States should be more restricted, however this has more to do with the University policy which the students disobeyed, then gun control.  The man didnt actually do anything to harm the students, although I suppose he potentially could have. I think the students should not have possessed guns in the first place, and should be punished.

  1. I agree with you. If guns aren'permitted, then the kids shouldn't have it. Also, they could have stabbed the man instead of shooting him if it ccame to that.

  2. Absolutely agreed! And with a case like that, you really have to the of all the possible outcomes if something had changed.

  3. I would agree with the students in this situation, because if he entered the house without their consent, of course they would be frightened. And you never know, the man could have been looking to take on some younger and inexperienced college kids in a fight.

  4. I agree with you, gun laws should be more reinforced than they are currently, and who is allowed ownership of a gun more restricted. There is really only one thought between a person doing nothing with a gun and shooting someone, and sometimes people do things on impluse! This is why firearms are dangerous

  5. I think that the students should be punished for having guns since it was against the university policy. However, i disagree with extremely restrictive gun laws (I do agree with some restrictions and precautions) because I think lots of gun laws only restrict law abiding citizens and not the people who we are worried about having guns.

  6. SO... I extremely disagree with the fact that gun laws should be more restrictive. I say this because all the good, law-abiding peoples will put their guns away and not have them on their persons, while the people that the law is targeted to will disobey the law anyhow, and use their guns in criminalistic ways (cause thats how they are and think). Putting restrictions on guns will only make self-protection decrease. I DO agree with scolding the kids, or giving them a small punishment, since it is against the University's policy, but that they should not be expealled, due to the fact that it was an ex-prisoner (and he has a past, or so says the law, of commiting a crime of some sort). Just my opinion...
