Norway's Worst Mass Murder by Corsica Steding

The attack occurred less one-hour after The Noble Peace Prize was awarded in Oslo, Norway.  Even though this event was dropped from the headlines, the president of the European Parliament visited the following day.  The criminal, Anders Behring Breivik, first detonated a bomb in downtown Oslo that killed 8 people.  He then took a ferry to Utoya where there is an annual camp for young members of Norway's Labor Party.  He shot everyone he could, and in the end killed 69 people.  Most of these victims were teenagers.  He admitted to having killed all of the innocent people, and is now sentenced to 21 years in jail.

Jonathan Mann wrote this article for CNN on December 13th.  Before reading this article I had heard of horrific events like this one.  This article is written to tell the rest of the world what happened considering the story was dropped from headlines.  It was also written to update people on the criminal's punishment.  This article serves as a sad reminder that extremely awful, evil things happen in the world even if we don't understand why.

  1. This is very sad. I think the security needs to be stepped up in some way and the selling of guns needs to be restricted because of all the recent and random shootings.

  2. This is so sad. I think that this man should be sentenced to more than 21 years in prison because he took so many lives. All these shootings really scare me. I think something should be done that will stop these things from happening.

  3. That's just awful. He killed 69 people, and he only got 21 years in prison? Something's got to be done sometime about all of these shootings.

  4. This is horrible. I can't understand why someone would kill people for no reason. These innocent people didn't do anything to him, so why does he need to kill them. I also can't believe that this had happened only one hour after the peace prize was awarded. I agree that this man should get a lot more than just 21 years in prison. He deserves a bigger punishment.
