American Airlines engine fails - Lauren Rothert

On Saturday October 28th, an American Airlines plane departing from Chicago O'Hare International Airport caught fire on the runway. The fire was due to the right engine failing, it sent debris half a mile away. 161 passengers and nine crew members were aboard the plane just before takeoff. There were only minor injuries due to rushing down the emergency slides. Luckily, the fire happened before the plane took off, if it were to happen in the air the accident could have been devastating.

I believe that accidents like these should never happen. It shows that the planes were not properly tested before being put out on the runway. This is not the first time something like this has occurred, there have been other Boeing jet incidents like this in the last 13 months. American Airlines and Boeing will be receiving a lot of attention from outside sources to get input on the fire.

  1. This shows how man made machines are not perfect. We forget that these types of things happen because we get use to everything going as planned when it comes to transportation. I hope one day we will update out machines so they are more reliable.

  2. I agree with you that they should always double check the plane before taking off
