Current Events: Fugitive Police Chief in Mexico Caught
In November of 2014, 43 Mexican students were abducted under the order of the local mayor, Jose Luis Abarca. Abarca claimed that he did not want the students disrupting an event that his wife was holding so his men kidnapped them. The students were turned over to a gang that accused the students of being a rival gang so they killed all of the students and burned their bodies. Finally, two years later, one of the main men involved with the abduction and murder of 43 students has been caught. His name is Felipe Flores and he was a former police chief of Iguala. He covered for other police officers that were involved with the case and was directly involved with their kidnapping.

This is such a horrific story and I can’t believe that a city’s   mayor would order the kidnapping of 43 students, just so his wife’s event wouldn’t be disturbed. This is an example of an event that happened in the absolute worst case scenario for sure. The mayor did not intend for the kids to wind up dead, but the gang that the kids were given to thought they were rivalries, so they were killed. I wonder why the faulty police officers that abducted the kids never told the gang who they actually were. If someone would have done that, it would have saved a lot of heartache. I hope that everyone involved with this case gets caught.

  1. This is terrible! Kids should not be killed in any situation. I too hope everyone involved in this gets caught and that the mayor tries to change the amount of crime in the area to make it better instead of contributing to the problem.
