In August of 2016, an earthquake struck Italy killing almost 300 people. On Wednesday October 26, 2 more devastating earthquakes hit Italy. The recent ones were 2 hours apart, the first one having a magnitude of 5.5 and the second having a magnitude of 6.1 and both took place southwest of the city of Visso. Thankfully we have yet to hear any injuries caused by these earthquakes. However, San Salvatore, an old historic church from the 15th Century, suffered severe damage leaving it unrecognizable. The city of Visso is in ruins and many people who's houses are destroyed are having to camp out in tents.
Natural disasters like earthquakes can't be predicted, let alone prevented. I feel so bad for the people that lost their homes, but I'm relieved that no one got hurt.

I hope that Italy will be able to prepare themselves better for the earthquakes that come their way. At least nobody got hurt.
ReplyDeleteIt is so sad that a historic church was destroyed. I hope that we can develop technology to better prepare ourselves for natural disasters like this.
ReplyDeleteUgh this is horrible! My first current event was about Italian earthquakes and they just keep happening.
