Elle Holland Current Event #10

Balwinder Sahni, a property developer in Dubai, bid 9 million dollars on a license plate bearing the number 5 at a government auction. I was on of the highest prices ever bid on a license plate but not outdoing the 14 million spent in 2008 by Abu Dhabi. the single-digit plates now occupy two of his six rolls royce cars. The other plate Sahni won at an auction last year for 6.7 million that has the number 9.

I think it this is a stupid thing to spend that much money on bc it could be going to more important things like charity not just a license plate which usually comes with a car. I don't understand the significance or importance of having a single-digit license plate. However i do think it's kinda cool that there actually a market for license plates that people are that devoted to.

  1. I agree with you there is no purpose in spending that much money on something you usually get with a car. Maybe this dumb trend will stop and they can spend millions of dollars on helping the poor in stead of a single digit license plate.

  2. I think that is a giant waist of money, even if you are extremely rich you could give that money to charity, the homeless, or at least buy something cooler that a 1 digit license plate. Wow guys I just bought a 9 million dollar license plate, look how smart I am!

  3. If I were to spend 9 MILLION on something it sure as heck wouldn't be a license plate. It would go to better things, like helping other people.

  4. Such a waste of money, but 9 million to them is like 90 for us, it doesnt seem like alot to them so they dont value it as much as we do for things like charity.
