Face Perception Studies by Kira Bell

Fairly recent studies show patterns of face recognition. Certain parts of the brain correspond with faces and the reaction is almost involuntary, when said portion of the brain is damaged people must rely on other means of identifying people.
I find this interesting from an artist perspective because replicating this effect would be important in creating an accurate and appealing portrait.
